The 7th Biennial SCRA Conference will be held at Yale University and the Omni Hotel in New Haven, Connecticut. The campus is situated in downtown New Haven, conveniently located near theaters, museums, and a diverse array of restaurants offering various ethnic cuisines. The New Haven Green, a classic New England town park surrounded by historic buildings, is also nearby.
Within a short drive, attendees can access numerous outdoor spaces perfect for hiking, exploration, and quiet reflection. Conference sessions will take place in the newly renovated Linsley-Chittenden Hall on the Old Campus and at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale. Both locations are fully accessible.
New Haven is approximately 75 miles northeast of New York City, 125 miles southwest of Providence, and 175 miles southwest of Boston. Train service is available to New Haven’s Union Station via Amtrak and Metro North Commuter Railroad from major cities along the Eastern seaboard.
Tweed-New Haven Airport is the closest airport to the campus (a 10-minute taxi ride) and is serviced by US Airways Express, a commuter carrier with connections through Washington and Philadelphia. Major airlines also serve Bradley International Airport near Hartford (about 1 hour from New Haven).
Three New York area airports (LaGuardia, Kennedy, and Newark) are relatively close to New Haven (approximately 2 to 3 hours away). Shuttle services provide transportation to New Haven from these airports. Additionally, T.F. Green Airport in Providence, RI, is about 1 1/2 hours from campus and is served by all major airlines, including Southwest Airlines. While shuttle services are not available from T.F. Green, all major car rental companies operate there.
Connecticut Limousines (800-329-7298) provides shuttle service from Bradley Airport (approximately $25 each way) and the New York area airports ($38-53 each way). A short taxi ride from the New Haven train station or airport will take you to the campus or your hotel. Prime Time shuttle (800-RED-VANS) also offers service from JFK and LGA airports. Reservations are recommended for both shuttle services.
Yale Travel Services (1-800-858-YALE) is available to conference participants flying to campus. They may offer discounted fares on United Airlines and US Airways and can assist with air and car rental needs. Consider checking travel arrangements early for the best rates.
Rooms are available on the Yale campus and at two nearby hotels. Discounted rates have been negotiated for all accommodations, and all offer fully accessible rooms.
Hotel accommodations are available at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale. The Omni will host several conference events and is about 2 blocks from Old Campus, where other sessions will take place. Hotel accommodations are also available at the Holiday Inn - New Haven, approximately a 15-minute walk from Old Campus and downtown and a 20-minute walk from the OMNI. The cost at the Holiday Inn is $75 per night for single occupancy and $79 for double occupancy, including continental breakfast. On-campus dormitory housing is available on the Old Campus, close to all conference sessions. The single-occupancy rooms share a common bath with 4-5 rooms, are not air-conditioned, and have basic furnishings. There are no elevators in the four-story buildings. Linens and towels are provided and can be exchanged daily. The cost of campus housing is $28.00 per night.
For those choosing campus housing, parking will be available in a nearby public garage for approximately $7.00 per night. Parking is available at the Omni and several other public lots for commuters.
Registration confirmations, parking information, maps, directions, and campus check-in information will be mailed approximately May 7. Late registrants may not receive this information in time.

The conference will begin with a Wednesday evening poster session and reception and conclude with a town meeting and closing session Saturday afternoon. Conference registration includes admission to all conference sessions, the keynote address by Frances Moore Lappe and Paul Martin Dubois, the APA Distinguished Award for Theory address by Irwin Sandler, a conversation hour with Seymour Sarason, and entertainment Thursday and Friday evenings. Conference registration fees also include meals, except for Friday supper and Saturday lunch, refreshments at breaks between sessions, and a continental breakfast each morning of the conference (at conference hotels or at the site of conference sessions).
Conference registration is required in advance. To register for the conference, download, complete, and print the conference registration information form from the download area of this site. The deadline for on-time registration is May 7, 1999. Registration materials received after May 7 will incur a $30.00 late fee, and confirmation materials may not arrive before the conference.
