Keynote Speakers: SCRA 7th Biennial Conference – “Bringing Democracy to Life”

Frances Moore Lappe and Paul Martin DuBois, renowned figures in community development and democratic problem-solving, were the keynote speakers at the SCRA 7th Biennial Conference, themed “Bringing Democracy to Life.” They are the Co-Founders and Co-Directors of the Center for Living Democracy and the American News Service, both located in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Dr. DuBois also holds the position of National Director at the Institute for Racial and Ethnic Relations. Their collaborative work emphasizes the power of democratic problem solving to drive meaningful community change. They are widely recognized for their best-selling book, The Quickening of America: Rebuilding Our Nation, Remaking Our Lives, which explores these themes in depth.

Both Ms. Lappe and Dr. DuBois are accomplished authors in their own right. Ms. Lappe is known for her influential book, Diet for a Small Planet, while Dr. DuBois authored The Hospice Way of Death.

At the conference, Ms. Lappe and Dr. Dubois delivered a joint keynote address on Thursday morning, entitled “Bringing Democracy to Life.” Their presentation likely focused on practical strategies for engaging citizens and fostering community research to address pressing social issues. The conference also included a call for programs and various sessions related to conference program topics.
